DIY rear bow tie painting

I painted my rear bow tie last night so I did a DIY write up. When I do the front bow tie, I will post that.

The most important things:
1. Use adhesion promoter
2. Many light coats
3. Remove tape while wet

Clean the area well with isopropyl alcohol solution or with a polish/wax remover surface cleaner like Chemical Guys WipeOut. Tape off the area and cover with a drop cloth to prevent overspray. Follow the instructions on your product cans.

Taping pattern

Cover well in order to stop overspray

Use adhesion promoter, very important

Keep paint cans in warm water

Glossifier is more of a clear coat, not really a “gloss.”

Finished

If you do get overspray on your paint, you can rub it off with a microfiber rag. You may cause swirls wiping since you have to rub hard and may need to polish after. So it’s best to not get any overspray on the car. The overspray is easiest removed with a white pad and some polish.
