The age old rule that i was taught and follow is that perfect gearing has you going through the traps at or maybe a few hundred rpms above redline, in 1:1.

But I've never raced anything with 6 power gear though.
Agree on the gear,

Automotive Physics would dictate that you should go through the traps at peak HP as it would yield the most HP under the curve. but realistically MPH changes at the end yield minimal ET changes.

I'm old and on a 440 if you tried to go thru the traps a few hundred rpm above redline, you would have a rod through the block.
