Call me crazy but I would still try 1st.... even though 2.97 is a "normal" cars first gear... i have always been an advocate of "dont fear the gear."

Optimal gear is crossing the traps at or near redline in 5th. A 28 tall tire and 3.27 gear is the best bolt on combo. IMO

The age old rule that i was taught and follow is that perfect gearing has you going through the traps at or maybe a few hundred rpms above redline, in 1:1.
But I've never raced anything with 6 power gear though.
