Anyone thinking they are going to put a lower cost, lower output V8 in this car (this gen) just needs to forget it. The amount of R&D it would take to do so isn't nearly justified.

So that leaves the LT1. Now the 1SS is far from what I'd call "stripped" but its not littered with anything too fancy either aside from the upgraded drivers information center and the standard 8" touchscreen. Its mostly about the performance, which is exactly the same as a 2SS.

So what could they really do to lower the cost of a LT1 equipped Camaro? I don't know if there is enough to lower the cost significantly, but perhaps they can lower the cost a grand or two. I don't really see them putting on LT brakes or suspension as some have mentioned. LT brakes may sacrifice safety and softer suspension would save zero dollars.

Lower end wheels/tires
non-RS lamps
no wing
standard driver center screen and 7" infotainment screen

I can't really come up with anything else aside from that. I'm assuming somewhere around $1,500 max savings there.

So is lowering the cost of an entry level SS by $1,500 going to drive up sales? Doubtful...besides, its the T4 and V6 models that need to be selling more to make a difference to GM. Not the SS.
