Kind of chilling reading that, as I remember where I was when this tragedy happened. I had just returned to my college dorm from calculus class, only to see my roommates staring at the TV in disbelief.

I by no means take it lightly. I grew up on Long Island. I saw the firefighters rushing west toward WTC while we were sitting in my 5th grade Literature Arts class. I know people who lost their family that day.

The loss of life alone was a tragedy, but it forever changed the mentality of the US and the world abroad. Things that were oftentimes relaxing and carefree became constant reminders of heightened security. Looking back on videos from the 90s, people were so much more willing to trust one another. Families were able to say their farewells to a relative at the terminals before a flight. I hope we can return to that one day, in some shape or form.
