Actually it is tuned for 93 octane if you read the manual. 91 Oct. can and does retard timing in certain conditions. You can hear it in the exhaust note.

There are times when the exhaust note is clean, crisp and other times when it sounds muffled and has a sputtering sound to it, usually when it is hot outside and when you are in commute traffic.

The LT1 has a compression ratio of 12:1, that is beyond 91 octane in certain conditions for full HP & TQ
