I never owned a gen 5 but I can tell you they're two completely different cars, not even similar. The gen 5 was on the Holden developed Zeta platform from 2006 used in the Pontiac G8.
The Gen 6 is a brand new platform developed by GM Detroit in 2015 and used in the current Cadillac ATS and CTS.
Structural rigidity, suspension engineering, fit and finish are all light years ahead of the 5th gen.
