the main reason we do it is for quicker response. For some reason, probably from all the electronics and having extra moisture trapped in from the bullet-proof vest the cars fog up on the inside much more easily than regular cars. I prefer not to hang my head out the window to see when I am going 80 mph to keep your daughter from getting beat up by her boyfriend. Its very aggravating when there is a hot call and you have to sit and wait for 2 minutes until the windows defrost. I only keep my sqaud running on nights/days when this happens.
Some of my subordinates seem to think they can always let them run, which is usually followed by an ass chewing from me.
The guys in the summer that work during the days probably keep the A/C going because of the electronics and the aforementioned hot, sweaty vest.
And, usually the department is too cheap to buy a nice battery, which results in the battery going dead in less than a day. |
Well said! When I worked in K9, the car was never off. It's mostly a judgement call depending on many factors like you said!
