At the time of purchase for me, it was the only A8 on the market. After driving the A10, yes I feel that the 8HP70(a Mercedes transmission IIRC) is garbage by comparison.
No more electronic goodies than the ZL1, to be honest. I'd venture the say the ZL1 actually has a lot more in electronics.

The Bilstein adaptive suspension is from the viper program & I anticipated better
