Well I believe that cost also played a role. That little 1.7 is probably what kept us as the cheapest of the bunch. And it is more than enough to handle what the car was set out to do. The only problem with that blower is that it is limited when modding the car. GM has no desire to build these cars so that we can go out and mod them and blow the engine and then return it to stock for free warranty work.

A low 11s street/strip/track car is what Chevy offers in the ZL1. It was the best of the three in the last generation because it did everything well. That is still its strength.
Nonsense. It is no more scary than a ZL1 is. The only difference is that you have to go around corners slower. If you stay within it's limits then it is fine. If you push beyond them then you're in trouble...same can be said if you push a ZL1 beyond it's limits. As we have seen a few incidents of people smacking walls on tracks. I know how fast my HC can take certain corners. And I stay within that limit and it is not scary. Even when at it's limit. I just know not to go beyond that. Now if you try to go around a corner in a HC as fast as you could do it in a ZL1, then you're in trouble. But if you try to take a corner in a ZL1 as fast as you would in a ZR1 or Z06 then you'd be in trouble too. Does that make the ZL1 scary?
