Pros & Cons from a previous BMW M owner

First I want to start by saying the ZL1 is an amazing car and is hands down better than any BMW M. I previously had an F10 M5 with the DCT and a dual clutch is just quicker shifting than the 10 speed in the ZL1. That said the 10 speed is fast. My only real complaint is I don't have the option to put the Camaro into Performance Shift Mode as the car decides when to do this on its own. The DCT still allows you to select the shift profile when you want and it provides a very satisfying feeling when it "slams" into the next gear that the Camaro doesn't have.

That said...that is literally the only *very slight* drawback. I agree with previous comments that on a track I don't think you will want to manually shift the 10 speed anyway...too many gears and in performance shift mode it stays pretty aggressive.

Here are the HUGE upsides. I compared it to the Shelby GT350 and the M4 during my purchase decision and the Camaro what the clear winner in the end...and from the outside with was the clear #3 at the beginning of the search. I will say this car is as advertised and will not disappoint--all the reviews are spot on!

The other big piece that isn't talked about much, but is very surprising is how good the PTM is in the Chevys. If you are familiar with traction control and M Dynamic Modes you will know that BMW is rather binary. Way too much intervention and feeling the car is being held back when traction control is on, even in dynamic mode. The other option is completely off...which in many cases also isn't what you want as the cars are way too biased towards oversteer. They are predictable, but that line is a bit too close.

PTM leaves you with the feeling it is giving you absolutely everything it can right up until the limit...this is by far the most graceful system out there. It lets you drive the car and does its best to stay out of the way...it's AMAZING.

The magnetic ride control dampers are also next level stuff. I wanted a car I can drive in the Canyons in Southern California AND do track days. You will not find another system that goes between street driving and on track as easily as this one. I did consider the 1LE, and the spool valve dampers are next level tech for the track, but they can be too harsh if you want to enjoy on the street as well...my opinion. For some they want the all out track performance and for them the 1LE is the right choice without question.

My advice - buy this car and you will not regret it! You will easily pay 3X the price to get the same level of performance. I travel to Europe alot and I can say the Camaro will stand out from the crowd there...you rarely see anything like it. It's loud and aggressive (it doesn't always have to be loud ) and is sheer driving enjoyment. You can go out and embarrass the exotics at the track...trust me, you will because the performance is so much more accessible in this car.

Hope this helps...send me a message if you have any other questions.
