We have had four Camaros over the span of the last three years. Here are my thoughts, for what it's worth.
1) Gen 3: 1991 Camaro RS 305 TBI Auto - Throttle response was poor, but the sound was amazing. The car was upgraded to headers and Flowmasters. The performance ended there. LOL.
2) Gen 5: Camaro 1LS V6 (LFX) Manual: I learned how to really "drive" in this car. The 6-speed, when "finessed" properly, would allow the LFX to pull off some pretty incredible exotic-sounding noises. The car handled great for being so heavy and was a lot of fun.
3) Gen 5: Camaro 2SS Manual (Hurst short throw, headers, SLP exhaust) - this was an ENTIRELY different experience from the two vehicles mentioned above. The car was ridiculously fast, but it felt "heavy" and more cumbersome to drive than the '13 LFX. I think someone mentioned "muscle car" vs. "sports car". The SS was definitely muscle and the LFX was definitely sport.
4) Gen 6: 1LT Convertible LGX Auto - brilliant car from every perspective. No, it's not a muscle car. It's definitely got the sports car vibe. I have the MRT v.2 exhaust and a K&N CAI. The sounds, when driven "properly" using the tap shift, are equally as amazing as what I experienced with my '13 LFX, but the car handles even better!
So, this being said, I have owned Camaros of all flavors. For a DD commuter I hands-down choose the LGX-equipped model. For bragging rights and pure unadulterated power, go for the V8. Personally, I drive my cars to work, drop my son off at school, go grocery shopping, etc - all of the normal things one does with a DD - and have no regrets about buying another V6 "muscle car'. To me, the Camaro bloodline is that of a "PONY car" - a small, lightweight, sporty-feeling practical ride, and the V6 Gen 6 embodies that spirit tremendously. Sure, the V8 guys will argue that the Camaro is a "MUSCLE car", however that was not the Camaro's original intent. It was meant to compete with the Mustang. 50 years later we are still debating the same things so from a marketing success perspective the pony/muscle wars live on. Long live the Camaro, in whatever flavor you choose!
