The A8 will hold a bunch of power in stock form and it is a completely different animal with tuning. Also the gearing is not much different between the 2 transmissions for the first 4 gears. 5th is the biggest difference where the A10 is 1.56 and the A8 is 1.27...so the A8 will have more RPM drop on the 4-5. So in a nutshell the 2 transmissions are similar to 4th gear, the A10 has basically 1 more useable gear before 1:1 and adds another overdrive.

Can you elaborate on "but the A8 comes to life with a good TCM tune".
I'm getting boosted soon and the car will be getting custom tuned. So while he's in there...what tables in the TCM will be beneficial? I heard 0% slip in 7th & 8th. Any advice would be great.
