I disagree that a majority of buyers would want a base model anything. People already gripe that they wish it had more gizmos and could give messages while you drive.
I think Chevy is purposely keeping the price brackets where they are to move the image to a more sophisticated level instead of the mullet machine image. One reason sales numbers are down is probably due to less rental car fleet vehicle sales. Strategic move by GM. Maybe it will work, maybe not.
