Having seen countless YouTube reviews and Mustang-Camaro comparisons, I was searching for atypical comparisons (e.g., Challenger-Audi TT, etc.), and I found this tread. Here are some Car & Driver numbers which migh explain the perspective of the TT coworker.

I’m going to need to replace one or two cars in the next year. I’ve had two Prosches, two Mustangs, an Rx7, a Benz, a couple of VWs. The gen6 Mustang I drove didn’t push any nostalgic Mustang buttons. I’ve liked Camaros too. The ‘67 SS convertible my friend’s parents bought new made a strong childhood impression.

I’ve configured the gen 6 Camaro many times over the last couple of years. Searching for question answers brings me back to this site; but I have to say guys, ... discourse like this thread kind of perpetuates the bad Camaro owner’s rep. I like the car, and I’d like to buy American this next go around, but ... I just don’t think I can be a part of this tribe. I’m not enraged or deeply offended, I just wouldn’t want to be associated with it.

Ya know Godfatha, some people think all convertibles are hair stylist cars. I myself would probably go for a BMW M240ix or an Audi S4 before a TT, but I can see why it might appeal to some people. It’s compact, sporty, and has AWD. For some, it’s a nice alternative to the AWD Challenger.
