Sorry to hear- first as long as everyone is OK. Your car is a mess- better hope it's totaled so you can get a new one. Even if it is fixed the value of the car will be substantially lower when you sell or trade it in. My son had an accident with my 2011 MS3. I thought for sure it was totaled but they fixed it. I didn't want it afterwards as the value after a crash would be so much less. I never saw it again and traded it in at a Mazda dealer, took the big hit and forget about it.
Yes, never ever take your eyes off the road- I learned my lesson over 40 years ago when I was just a young kid- I was driving a 1971 Ford Bronco in a driving rain and fog- it was leaking in the back- I turned around to see where the water was coming from- went through a stop sign and broad sided a car. Way back then accidents were not such a big deal- no one was hurt and I drove away. End up fixing the Bronco myself with junk yard parts. The lesson learned from that accident is with me today and whenever I attempt to take my eyes off the road even for a split second I remember the accident and do not take my eyes off the road. And in a few situations where people do stupid things like lane changes, illegal U turns, etc. I avoided getting in an accident. Always keep your eyes on the road no matter what- many, many bad drivers out there that have no clue how to drive and do not know to look for other cars around them before they do stupid things.
