Even though it's highly speculative, I don't see any issue with GM actually going through either the gearbox housing and/or camaro design, and making a modification for 2019 or 2020 to fit the M7. They did say it was close to fitting, but not quite.
I'm not saying that's what's going on here, but just because a car couldn't fit the M7 a few years ago, doesn't mean they haven't solved the issue by now.
