To each his own. I don't have a problem with the 7-speed. I simply don't see it as providing a big benefit either. Even Tremec's documentation shows the 7-speed's purpose was for fuel economy ratings...not performance.
Its traction limited due to tire selection...easy fix. If it had a steeper gear you wouldn't need to shift for a hill, it's the opposite. It would pull easier under load.
