I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure the difference is that significant. The ZL1 is already somewhat traction limited in the lower gears with a 3:73 rear gear. I don't think it's likely we'll see GM go any more aggressive. Also, the final ratio in 6th gear is about as tall as I'd want on the interstate. Any taller and we'd need to shift for hills while interstate cruising.

To each his own. I don't have a problem with the 7-speed. I simply don't see it as providing a big benefit either. Even Tremec's documentation shows the 7-speed's purpose was for fuel economy ratings...not performance.
