Just my opinion but the HC needed the hp to make up for the weight. The fact that the mustang was receiving almost Corvette hp in the pony car war was impressive. I don't believe Dodge slapped anyone they just joined the party and had a big following because of it's throw back looks so the hype was inflated.

Perhaps. But I was just answering the question about why/how the HC got all the credit over the other cars that clearly were pushing high hp numbers before the HC showed up. Again, the 707 number did a lot of that. It certainly grabbed my attention. And it was the first one to break the 700 hp barrier. Think about it. There are lots of people who don't know what a ZL1 or GT500 is. But I hardly ever run into someone who doesn't know what a Hellcat is and 707 hp has a lot to do with it.
