I had a Katech put in at the dealer. My build date is 5/18, so I was worried. Make sure they check the cam chain tensioner spring. Some are slightly defective (cut too short) somehow.

My thoughts? Can you afford to replace the engine if it got destroyed by a bad oil pump? Can you afford $3500 to replace the oil pump before it breaks?

I don't think that's the case. An oil pump should never break, regardless of oil. There should be a huge margin of strength built into the stock oil pump. Katech did it. It's not rocket science.

Or, you know, spend $70K on a ZL-1, and have it destroy itself while you drive it, 2000 miles from home while on vacation. #thatsucks. #gmpleasedobetter. #ifonlygmspentanextra25centsontheoilpumps.

You can't sue for damages that have not happened. So far, GM is fixing all that are breaking, per the experience of owners on this forum. That seems to be their strategy. Fix what breaks and run out...

An oil pump should not be on the verge of failure such that cold oil makes it break. This is a total fail by GM.

I think you are the only one talking about the cam chain tensioner here. All the failures I remember on this thread were just the pump internals cracking and causing subsequent chaos.

It's the outer ring that cracks. Look at post#1071, at the7 o'clock position. The outer ring cracks at that indexing pin cutout, besides also cracking in other places.
