The backlit illumination only comes on in dim conditions, dusk or later. During the day, when you open the door, they will not be lit.

I have had the K&N Typhoon installed on my V6 now for over 6k miles. No issues. I have had a tune included after installing an 80mm throttle body and ported intake manifold just under 1k miles ago....
