I did it too, without removing anything. Just did it by feel. Took maybe 30 minutes, much of which was spent trying to find one of the screws that dropped.

I actually did this - it didn't help. And I did the break-in procedure when I installed the pads new as well. I'm lucky enough to be able to drive less than 5 minutes out to back country roads.
