J/k that sounds to me like an exhaust leak from one of the primaries. You say you're full bolt ons - maybe one of the header flange bolts backed off?

Yeah, I'd say the shifter is a substantial piece of equipment to miss out. That said, the factory shifter just feels so good that the length of the throw is not an issue.
