Not sure why you're LOLing, you have the slower car. Anyway when Dodge did decide to supercharge their hemi, they certainly upped the ante didn't they? I came to check the response on the Camaro...

True but they didn't have a supercharged version then which they do now. Certainly the 392 Hemi was more than competitive with NA Camaros until the 7 litre Z28 at the strip. Although not as fast as...

In equal conditions, for more than one lap probably yes. The 2010 ACR turned a lap 7 seconds faster than the ZR1 at Nurburgring, albeit using a professional driver. The ZR1 was marginally faster at...

It is now, but hey if you want to argue semantics the ZL1 is slower than the 2010 DODGE Viper too.

Faster than a Viper? I don't think so on either the track or the strip. Oh sorry I forgot; this is a pony/muscle car forum we're not supposed to compare the Camaro to "sports cars". Of course we're...

Interesting how this thread is more about the upcoming Z06 to Hellcat comparison than the ZL1. I thought this was a Camaro forum. Also interesting how suddenly the Camaro is not about the 1/4 mile....

A GenIII Hemi won this years (2012) Engine Masters Challenge in the Street Division. 675 hp from 417 cubic inches. For those who don't know how it works the contest is area under the curve, not peak...

Bored out 5.4?

The 5.4 really can't be bored out, the bore spacing is too small. The 5.0 would have to have a 4.25" stroke to make a 5.8L. Using the 5.0 rod would give a terrible rod to stroke ratio of <1.4. The...

Sometimes an extreme example does make a valid point. Holding up the Boss 302 Mustang as a "race-bred" piece to which the "fat" Camaro is an unworthy competitor is a lot of nonsense. The Boss 302 is...

Good point. If the Grand-Am rules allowed any make engine in any car, the BMW and Ford drivers would pretty soon have LS3's under the hood since it's a lighter engine, with a lower centre of gravity,...

Really? Does that mean Dodge can run the Viper ACR and Dodge fans could righteously moan about it being restricted so the "fat kid" Mustangs and BMW's could keep up?

How many sub 12.8 SS Camaro timeslips did you have in June of '09? By then there were about as many SS Camaros on the street as there are 392 SRT8s now. Give it some time. The 392s will clearly run...

The first point is not true in Canada. Starting MSRP on the GT500 is $59K, $48K on the SRT8 and $67K on the Vette. Even if you add $2K for the manual in the SRT8, it's still $9K below the GT500.

True enough, peak hp is not the variable we should compare. It should be area under the torque curve from 2500 to 6500 rpm. Here the Challenger 392 excels having a slightly flatter torque curve than...

Inputing 3850 lbs and 350 rwhp for the L99 into an 1/4 mile calculator, gives 12.95 seconds for the Camaro. 4180 lbs and 420 rwhp yields 12.53 seconds, or about 4 tenths faster.

Another way of looking at it is comparing stock rwhp of the L99 and 392. Stock on the 392 is about 420. I'll guess stock on the L99 is 350. Edmunds actually tested the 392 at 452 rwhp (I don't...

I think you're in for a rude surprise should you ever race (at the track of course) a 392. I would guess the 392 is a good 0.4 seconds faster than the best L99s.

True enough. Mid 13's just get a sneer these days. It wasn't that long ago that people thought a Civic with aftermarket exhaust was a quick car. What a spoiled place cheap gas North America is.

There's an alternate interpretation: Ford and Dodge built "ringers" for press testing. Pretty easy to see why they would want to do that. There's a third alternative, the InsideLine dyno is a little...
