Fastest Camaro is not the ZL1 1LE, It’s the ZL1 without the 1LE option
I found this on MotorTrend:
Camaro with the Highest Top Speed When deciding which Camaro is the fastest, start at the end of the alphabet and work backward. The two Camaros with the highest top speed we have ever seen begin with a Z. When the first production ZL1 stormed back onto the scene in 2012 with a 184 mph top speed resulting from its 580-hp supercharged LSA V-8, it took the title of "fastest Camaro" and kept it for half a decade. But the show was over when we found the 2017 sixth-gen Camaro ZL1 capable of a 198-mph top speed. With the end of its lineage looming, the latest and greatest sixth-generation ZL1 is now, and possibly forever, the fastest gas-powered production model Camaro in history. The aero package on the 1LE slows the car down but is the obvious advantage on the track. Even so, when looking at the Nurburgring videos of the ZL1 and the ZL1-1LE, on the straight away, the ZL1 does hit a faster top speed |
Shhh, don't tell 1LE owners this, they will curse you.

Not surprising though if you think about it. The ZLE is built for the track. The added downforce helps keep the car planted in turns and allows it to corner faster, but it also adds drag at higher speeds which reduces its top speed. |

When I was reading the OP I thought maybe I happened upon a thread from 6 or 7 years ago. |
I guess I’m stuck in the middle with only the rear 1LE wing:smiling1:

Personally I've never been able to find a video of a regular ZL1 doing better than 175-ish. Don't think they can approach close to 198.
The 1LE has a shorter 6th gear helping it keep in the power at top speed, I think it may actually have a higher top end. Someone please prove me wrong!! edit...I was referring to the 6m...I know hennesey ran to 180 in a 10a. Still would like to see a 190-plus run somewhere! |

It was recorded on the PDR and I'm sure I still have the video. So I'm sure I can get a still from that to show you. |

It's actually been a while since I looked for top speed vids, I did just find a couple showing over 180. I do believe you the A10 will do 185..do you think you could touch that 198? |
This video shows a 0-194 mph / 312 kph acceleration on the street (legally, the video is from the Autobahn):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1Lzdyr4mms The car would've gone a bit further if the driver had had more space, but aero resistance is very serious at this speed, the speedo crawls upwards slower and slower. The 659 hp number is probably due to a mistaken metric hp conversion. |
I dont think I've ever read anyone claiming the ZLE had a faster top speed than a ZL1.

OK I'm a believer! I'll just be happy if I can bust 120 at MSR Cresson next Saturday...

I can see how individuals who have little general knowledge of race car aerodynamics could assume that a vehicle loaded with wings and splitters and general ground effects would create the illusion of race car equals max speed. I don’t think anyone who actually understands aerodynamics or has any experience tracking their car in any form of Motorsport would ever believe a winged car could be faster than a non winged car.
If I was to guess why some would be confused, it’s because the OEM’s have always marketed the top of the line performance vehicle with aero. For example, look at any year Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, Mustang, Charger, Challenger, 911, Ferrari, Lamborghini this list goes on and on. The top dog car has always been winged. In the case of the 1LE it’s aero actually works, a first really for the Camaro, thus a car that shattered records on the road course with aero that creates downforce which equals drag. So definitely, if you’re looking to drag race or run mile plus races you should start with a ZL1 and then start losing the aero on that car as well. Look at the COPO Camaro as an example. |
