5.5 Gallon Fuel Jug Fitment
 

Hi guys, I just bought two VP racing 5.5-gallon fuel jugs for track use. I am wondering if these two jugs fit in the trunk. If not, will it be safe to put them on the rear seat, any smell of gasoline?

Have you tried to make them fit? I doubt they will, if they are like my race fuel jugs they are way to tall. Probably not that safe either to haul them in the trunk.

Well I have put them in the back seat before and put seat belts on them. The MAIN reason I wound up getting a tire trailer was that it also allows you to carry 5 fuel jugs, my 4 track wheels with slicks, 1 spare slick not on rim and a trailer spare tire. Also have a large box that carries my jack and tools as well.

As a matter of fact, THAT trailer is fully loaded for track day tomorrow with approximately 28 gallons of fuel in those FIVE VP jugs.

Whole thing weighs about 700 ponds fully loaded and I upgraded the trailer tires so that I could pull it at 80 MPH.

I certainly wouldn't do it. The vents on my VP jugs don't seal very well. Only use them for very short-term fuel storage and they stay outside.

NO WAY! Fumes, electronics, static, sparks BOOM! Big disaster if you get in an accident and one of the jugs ruptures. Maybe ask a buddy with a pickup truck to transport your fuel and tools and hang with you at the track. Reward him (or her) with a session or two in the passenger seat.

Questions like this I usually ask-What’s the worst that could happen?

Leaks in trunk that somehow dribble down on exhaust…boom.
Leaks in back seat and the smell never goes away…ugh.

Never mind, I’ll figure something else out.

sr71bb , has a great looking set up, and I'm sure the trailer and hitch didn't break the bank . Fuel jugs in the car that includes the trunk , as mentioned very dangerous.
