ticking sound on new camaro lt1
Hi,
Ive had my 2021 camaro LT1 a little more than 2 weeks, im about 970 miles in now. Ive noticed that when Im up against a building or other cars i hear a ticking sound that almost sounds like an exhaust leak. It raises with revs in the engine. I opened the hood and listened and it sounded like it was coming from the upper end of the engine though i have no idea where. Is this just a normal noise for these engines, or should i have the dealer check it out? Having had a gen 3 coyote mustang, im used to engines having acceptable noises, but i want to be sure this is normal. It doesnt sound like direct injection, though maybe Chevy just has a loud DI system. But ive owned multiple DI cars, (audi, honda, VW, ) Im sorry if this is a dead horse, i did a quick check through the TSBs and didnt see anything. |
Yeah it does that. Direct injection sir

More than likely normal DI or valve train noise. From my limited experience, the valve train noise quiets down a bit after 3 or 4K miles. I wouldn’t worry about it unless you have performance issues… |
Thanks for the input all! Here is a video i took in case that changes anyones mind. It seems way louder than the DI im used to, but the only other american car ive had with DI was my mustang and that had ... other noises and a much louder exhaust. https://youtu.be/l1xC4K1cumE

Kinda hard to tell from the video, but consider that the other cars you mention for comparison have overhead cams rather than pushrods and rockers. The Chevy small block valve train is inherently noisy.

Here's a very unscientific method, but one that seems to work for me. Start the car, let it settle to idle and warm up in an open place not next to anything (no walls, no cars, etc.). Oil pressure at warm idle should be at or above 25 PSI. Get out of the car and close the door. Walk around the car, hood closed. You should hear a light bit of ticking while in front, but when you're walking around the back of the car behind the rear wheels you should hear only exhaust. If you hear ticking while behind the car, you may have a problem. |

sounds normal from what i could hear.
easy to get paranoid about sounds i know. but i wouldn't worry. |
High pressure fuel pump. One of the most common noises and complaints on modern cars. Normal.

Thanks for all the input all. The reason it freaked me out is that i can hear it echoing off buildings over the stock lt1 exhaust. But i opened the hood and listened close and i hear it evenly from both sides of the engine,
