HSV is the racing arm of Holden - like AMG is to Mercedes.
HSV is owned by the Walkinshaw Family, started by Tom Walkinshaw, who was a scottish Racing team owner (Arrows F1, TWR Le Mans cars etc.) and practically ran the Thunder Saloon racing series in Australia.
When Holden stopped producing domestic Product ( you got the Pontiac GTO and G8), they started importing the Opel Insignia and re-badged them as Commodores - which didn't go down well - FWD and no V8's.
HSV started a separate business a while ago called ASV (American Special Vehicles) converting LHD Chevy's to RHD for the Australian market. ( you can't buy a LHD in Australia - I think it's against the law)
Although Opel/Vauxhall in Europe was sold by GM to PSA (Peugeot Citroen) HSV still have links with the GM parent and Chevy and there is rumour that they'll change their name to 'Walkinshaw' in the near future.
However as far as adverts go, the Aussies really don't a give a s**t about being too politically correct :)
