1-2 synchro going out

When accelerating hard, gears grind when I try to shift from 1-2. Or if I try to do a steep downshift to 2, same thing. Dealer service manager took it for a drive, said it's the synchro- he's talking to GM as to whether to open it up or just replace the tranny.

Question is: will they try to blame my skip shift eliminator? should I pull it before I take it in?

It's always a good idea to have a stock car when you're having warranty work done.

You never know. I would take it out just in case.

Yeah you're right. It's just a PIA to take out and I can't imagine how it would be at fault.

Sorry to hear, first syncro issue I've heard of on these...

I know. I couldn't believe it, thought these transmissions were pretty stout. Only 3800 miles.

Depending on the dealer they may use any reason to scrap warranty. I wouldn't chance it. I'd take it off.

If you pull it out you increase your chances to 100% that it won't be an issue. If you leave it in there - you are rolling the dice. I personally don't ever count on luck when I have an option I can control. Good luck with the warranty repair!

They are, but there are going to be potential issues with anything mechanical.

Let us know what the dealer says...

Will do!

It should be a complete swap with a new unit. If they approve it.

Take the skip shift off immediately and deny ever using it. In the companies defence you have synchro problems and you were using an after market transmission product. They do have a leg to stand on and deny you warranty. Most likely your dealer won't nark you out, and they'll make money off the labour and keep a happy customer(you).

So they're "replacing 2nd gear". I'm kind of surprised, when I asked why, the service advisor said that "GM makes the call".

Wow it took this long to figure this out? I figured by now it would have been fixed...

Haven't been impressed with GM service at either of the dealers it's been to in the car's brief life so far.
