Cabin Air Filter replacement
3 Attachment(s)
Basically a 3 step process.
Step 1. Open glove box / empty it and unclip the little tension cable Step 2. Use considerable force to squeeze the box so that the stop pegs clear the dash. Might need some mechanical advantage the first time doing this. Step 3. Remove filter cover and replace filter. Reverse process to re-install. Though, I would put the tension cable on before putting the pegs back where they go. Below are pictures that basically cover that. |
The Cabin filter is inside the car, this time!?!
YES! It sounds silly, but I hated replacing it on the 5th gen...made me wince every time I had to peel the cowl piece out of the windshield molding. Thanks for posting, I hadn't even thought to look into this. |
^^^Yeah it feels a little early for anyone to be replacing it, but at least you got in first!

I was wondering where the filter was. I didn't see it in the manual.
|
how often should it be changed?
|
It's impossible to say, when you think about it. You may be in some areas where of the car may be susceptible to mildew, or areas that carry smells near industry. I change it annually but also change it whenever I start to smell something it doesn't seem to go away

Ok, dumb question:
How exactly do you "unclip the little tension cable ". I don't see how to do it without fear of braking something... (Newb moment here) |

Got it, thanks!

Finished! Found the door, I wasn't looking high enough. Another tip is to lightly spray the filter with a scent, I use a leather scent, the car smells fantastic -caution -don't use too much!
|
I'm 2000 away from 22,000 miles, i will post a pic of how mine looks when I change it in a month or so.

Anyone try those Fram fresh cabin filters, think they have Arm & Hammer scent, they are quite pricey, not sure if they are worth it.
|
Okay this was a bust....unclipped the tension cable but can't get the glove box pegs free what sort of mechanical "advantage did you use??? At this point I cannot reach the tensioner to put it back in place and cannot shut the glove box.
