ZL1 oil 0w/40 ESP Mobil 1 no longer available-? possibly for Oil Pump Fail
Went to get the oil changed on the ZL1 and the 0w/40 ESP Mobil 1 oil (part # 19370233) is no longer available. Tried to order at GM parts on line states discontinued. Dealer put Mobil 1 0w/40 FS (European Vehicles) in my vehicle. This is NOT a DEXOS approved oil. I did see Amazon does have some old stock left and purchased some of the ESP 0W/40 Mobil 1. Anybody have an idea what's going on or what we should use in future. I did read somewhere that 5w/30 Dexos is a replacement for street use. I wonder if this is in some way related to oil pump failures.

Also in stock here: https://www.thelubricantstore.com/mo...-case-6-quarts |
Summit website says they can ship ESP today.

I did find some at AMAZON and Speedway but it's possibly old stock. Officially, GM states it's discontinued and unavailable. The dealer said that the FS 0w/40 was a substitute but I'm suspicious.

I hope so. As more people get their oil done this summer, we will see. It's strange that the dealer put Mobil 1 0w/40 FS non DEXOS oil in my car. I know the phosphorus and sulphur content is higher in the FS (900 vs. 1100). I hope it will not void the warranty.

I'm not being a wise guy ! But if your dealer put the euro spec oil in your engine, how would you be liable ? Just keep your records/print outs, and enjoy if it's a problem, it's on the dealer. |
Seems like a catch-22 because the additive package is needed for extended life (although I don't believe in >5000 mile oil changes in general) but can potentially foul the catalyst faster

Definitely strange but not surprising as GM changes/updates part numbers/products all the time! I’m still using 5W30 in my 2017 and not planning to switch over to the new oil as long as I can buy 5W30.

I ordered 30 quarts the other day from Walmart. I like to have a few oil changes for all my cars in stock ready to go and I change it every 500 miles. I just hit 3200 miles and I did the 6th oil change the other day. My other cars its done at 3K miles.

I just ordered some on amazon today. None of the local auto parts stores seem to have it.

Still difficult to buy at local big box stores for some reason. The best price I found was Speedway Motors. Even better when they have their discounts running and free shipping. The last time I bought it from them, I think it came out to a little less than 7 bucks a quart.
