Spark plug wire heat sleeves
Anyone use spark plug wire heat sleeves after putting headers on? What kind did you use?
|
Yes, you need them, or wires will burn. just do a search, buy some good ones.
Also you can remove the coil cover. Move the coil wire boot back to pull the wire further away from the header tube. |
I use DEI titanium sleeves.. No problems.

Msd is what mine are

Old Thread Resurrected Spark Plug Heat Sleeve
So is this what most of you are using?

Prolly the second, the first seems to be a whole roll and you cut to fit.

Got about 10k miles on 2" tsp headers with factory wires and no sleeves. No issues. Not 100% any of that stuff is actually needed...
|
Peace of mind has a price...It's evidently only $60 or so, lol. I will run them when I get headers.

However, I feel it's kind of like Flood, Hurricane, Fire etc. insurance. Not a 100% needed, but good to have when you do need it. For me, I'd rather be safe than sorry even if we're only talking spark plug wires. My Kooks will be coated as well for that extra Heat insurance. |
I have the individual summit ones and they are good quality and a decent price.

Very interesting this jus happened to my boys SS. The #5 plug wire seem to be the only close to the Kooks headers. He purchased one sleeve after he fried his with a boot sleeve from advanced Auto for 12.99
