Advice after out of state purchase.

Feel a bit cheated.

Chose an out of state car. Had an out the door deal after asking for financing using my state's taxes, fees, etc. Did the purchase agreement by Fedex. Got there, they said they needed to do another purchase agreement because they couldn't role all of my state's fees into the loan. I'd have to come up with an extra $189 when I got home, but the loan would decrease a bit. No big deal.

Got to the DMV and they wanted $715. Contacted the dealer, they basically said it was my fault. Pics of the back and forth texts here....really pissed me off when the sales rep responded in caps. You can also see where I asked about my states fees.

I'm guessing there isn't much I can do. Will leave reviews around.

Silver lining...the car is so sweet!!!! I haven't had a car I've loved in a long time!

I live in Louisiana and bought my 2016 in Texas. The dealer took care of all the DMV stuff and I didn't have to pay anything extra for registration.

I live in Virginia and just purchased my car in Maryland. Dealer took care of everything. Only extra it cost me was the difference in personal property tax which amounted to less than $100.

We recently bought a car out of state and there was a bit of drama but in due time the dealer made it work. Without having all the facts we don't know if your dealer dropped the ball or not. That being said, the dealer should have gotten all the funds up front to pay for everything.

Bought in TN, live in MS. No problems.

Bought in MD live in VA - maybe since they are close and frequently have these transactions they have a better streamlined process, but had zero issues like that.

In 2010 I bought a motorcycle in PA. They got my NJ title work done faster than any vehicle I ever owned. Proximity between states probably has a lot to do with it.

I see lots of problems thru the business offices over the years and they do that kind of crap I had to sign 3 times on one contract that they kept mucking up.

Bought my ZL1 in South Carolina and had no problems with the deal except they didn’t give me a Dealer drive out temporary tag and put my tag from my 2016 SS on the car and said it was okay since I asked why they did it that way. When I called my local Tag Office the lady told me to take it off because it wasn’t legal to have it on car even though I had all the sales paperwork in the Z. Long story short, the Dealership sales manager sent me a temporary South Carolina tag overnight Fed Ex after I called and told them I needed a Temp Dealer tag.

Oh yeah Shredstone, don’t worry yourself about the hiccups of the deal anymore! You said you love this Camaro so get out there and enjoy the heck out of it and consider this a life lesson/experience that you can consider when buying a car out of state in the future. Congratulations too and welcome to the 6gen forum!

Ditto here, I got my 17 1SS in Houston and the dealership took care of all the paperwork, all I had to do is drive it home, which I did with enthusiasm.

Always better to just pay for the car only when buying out of state and pay the sales tax and registration fees separately at the DMV in your state when you register the car. I learned by asking a lot of questions when I bought a car out of state once a long time ago. It's harder if you are financing though. The dealer should have cut you separate checks for you to bring to your DMV since you paid them everything. I would get the manager of the dealership involved.

I have bought two Camaros out of state (one of them literally across the country) and both of them covered everything, and with my current car the DMV actually owed me something silly like 0.56 cents, but you best believe I cashed that check! Government gets not a penny more from me than their greedy selves already take haha. I'm sorry to hear your experience wasn't the best. I wish you the best and enjoy that beast!

When I bought my 02 F150, I lived in Vegas and bought it from my mom's friend in Cali. Got charged the higher Cali tax rate and was told I'd get the difference back from the state when I registered it in NV. I'm still waiting on that check.....
