Debating selling my T/A for a 6th gen

I’ve been going back and forth for about a year now trying to decide if I want to continue improving my Trans Am with more performance and giving it a more comfortable/ finished feeling to drive, or sell it and get into a 6th gen Camaro. Adding up the cost of everything it would take to get mine to perform like a 6th gen would probably be about the same as if I were to sell mine and buy a slightly used 6th gen. And hen there’s all the time I’d spend doing the work (which would be fun, but also I don’t have as much time for that kind lf stuff like I used to). There’s definitely a sentimental factor since I’ve built my Trans Am from basically nothing and have owned it for like 16 years now. But liek I said, I don’t have as much time to work on it now and kinda want to have something that performs and is reliable. I mostly fear regretting selling my first f body that i built myself. The big question is will I love the 6th gen enough to not regret making the switch?

I know I’m asking a biased audience here, but how do you guys feel about your 6th gens? Was anyone in the same boat as me selling one they put a lot of work into to buy a new one? I’d like to hear your stories and thoughts.

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives', husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Welcome to the site. Your T/A looks amazing! It would be nice if you could keep your T/A and be able to enjoy a 6th Gen.

This is a super tough question.

I don't think I'd be able to give it up for a 6th gen. 6th gens are a dime a dozen, a clean T/A is not.

I'd keep the TA and put a 6 Gen engine in it or a GM crate LSA engine.

Well if I’m being told by 6th gen guys that I should keep my 3rd gen, I should give it serious consideration. I currently have a gen 2 LT1/T56 out of a ‘95 Z28 in it. I swapped that in a little over 10 years ago. I’m thinking an LS3, LSA, gen 5 LT1 or LT4 is in my future if I keep it. I would also want to improve the suspension, brakes, and put A/C back in it to have the comforts of a 6th gen. Maybe I’d put 6th gen Recaro seats in it too, those look really nice!

I’d like to hear more people’s opinions as well and hear what you think of your 6th gen, especially if you owned a 3rd or 4th gen previously.

Are you confusing 5th Gens with 6th Gens?

A lot of us telling you to keep it have 5th Gen Camaros ('10-'15)

I used to have a bright purple metallic 4th gen. I miss that car. It was nowhere near as powerful or comfortable at my 2012, but that car had a personality all its own.

UMI or BMR make a good suspension set up for 3rd gens.

Why go through the cost and trouble of the newer LT engines? Just get a tried-and-true LS swap and boost it. You can probably get a drop-out motor and turbo system for the same cost as a newer engine (probably even cheaper).

When I registered here I thought it was focused on just 6th gens, I didn’t realize it was for 5th and 6th gens. I’m not dead set on swapping a gen 5 engine over a gen 4 engine, I just figured it’d be worth considering. Especially if I don’t do it for a couple years and lightly used LT1 blocks will be more plentiful while the aftermarket swap part market grows.

I’ll have to check out what UMI and BMR offer for suspension parts, thanks for the heads up.

Camaro5.com and Camaro6.com use the same registration information. This post looks like it was made on Camaro5 instead of Camaro6.

But it's all still good information IMO :)

I don't know how the longevity of these newer Direct Injection v8s are going to go. It will be interesting to see how they fare.

My browser says camaro6 right now. There must be some crossover in the forums.

ChibiBlackSheep 07-03-2019 12:14 PM

Perhaps the new member area is crossover indeed.
