Thinking about LT1 - V8 - Advice
Thinking about LTI 455 hp V8...I currently have 4cyclinder turbo, I am retired and have had the car for 3 years...less than 10,000 miles with no problems...Don't drive much, maybe 3300 miles a year...If I get the V8 will that be a disservice to the V8, or because it is a high performance power engine, does it need to be driven more or for longer stretches at a time or will the engine breakdown or "act up" if its not driven more...Any answers?

It'll be fine without heavy use. There's a lot of members back east who need to garage though the winter months because of weather.
There are people on here who have more posts than they do miles on their cars, and they're fine. Lol |
That's a non issue op just do it you'll love it

One thing I like about the lt1 is it very similar to what is used in the 1/2 ton silverados and Tahoes. The camaro lt1 benefits from the huge Silverado and friends r&d budget and they need to have the engine work in all conditions. I think that is a tangible difference down to the user

I only put around 6K/mi per year. Many put on much less. If you can afford the V8 comfortably, get it. Whatever amount of miles you drive, you'll be liking it a lot more.

No worries with the LT1 V8!!

as someone who went from an SS to a turbo 4...the V8 is a lot of fun but its also heavy and you will notice the weight, especially coming from the turbo. When I had mine, not driving it to the limit DID feel like a slight disservice to the car. That's why I switched to the turbo because I can use all the powerband on the street. You can't do that with the V8.

Torque abounds in this engine and seems to be readily available at all times.

If you are coming from a 4 banger its best to first get some seat time in the 6 banger for about a year before qualifying in the v8. Strictly for your own safety of course. |
