Cracked 20" RS wheel

China's finest! Already talked to dealership. They said warranty will cover it.

The wheel also doesn't seem to have any road rash/impacts and looks like a stress failure.

I tried to tell everyone several months ago about the inferior Chin-lese made wheels.

How did you discover the crack, any driving indications?

Do you have the GM p/n and manufacture month/date?

Thanks

Btw, I would recommend that anyone tracking their Gen6 have their factory wheels dye tested etc, annually.

Losing a wheel over 40mph can really end up badly.

Puts to rest the argument that the rs/SS 20 inch wheels are forged....;That clearly is a cast fissure....

And to check for stress fractures and cracks like this after EVERY Track day or Auto-X.

Discovered during cleaning after installation of GM splash guards. No impact damage visible on either side.

I hope you would file this NHTSA form as to track these events and to push GM to correct this safety flaw;

That is crazy! Nothing is made rock solid anymore.

I dont remember reading anywhere the RS/SS wheels are forged. The only forged wheels are the 1LE, ZL1 and the ZL1-1LE.

Thanks for the confirmation

UPDATE: I took it to my local dealer, not the dealer I bought the car from and spoke to on the phone. Local dealer said it was not warrantied, there are no manufacturer's defects known and that it would be $639 plus tax.

They said that it was caused by a pothole even though there is no sign of damage.

I am going to take it to the dealer that told me he thought it would be warrantied on Friday.

With a $500 deductible, i probably won't file an insurance claim. If I am going to spend $600+ for a wheel, it won't be China made. May be new set of wheels time, if its bad news from my dealer.
