Rear bumper fitment up near lights
 

Ive been meaning to post this for a while, but I kept forgetting. I finally got some good photos.

I cant be the only one with this fitment issue - this is how the car has been since the day I bought it. They are almost always in this place, pushed out a bit - especially on the driver side. Anyone mess with this and figure out the cause/solution?

*EDIT*: The answer has been found: it's for heat expansion, and with me being in Vegas at 110+ degrees right now, it's ESPECIALLY noticeable.

Thanks, much obliged. I thought I saw grumblings about it elsewhere but I wasnt sure.

Furthermore, this makes a LOT more sense for me: I live in Las Vegas, and my gap is quite big on hot days (which are 110+ here). I'll see how it looks come "winter".

The ziptie fix worked just fine for me, they've been on the car for years and the bumper always looks decent now.

EDIT: I just noticed the original post involves a 2022. On the 2019+, you have to remove the rear bumper cover to remove the taillights. So there doesn't appear to be a way to apply this zip-tie fix to a 19+ since you can't just pop the taillights out to access the bumper tabs like we can on the '16-18's... or as I can on my "de-freshed" 2021.

Funny timing for this topic to come up - I was just going to post some advice on that other zip-tie thread.

Be careful how you orient the heads of the zip ties. The first set of zip ties I installed caused some interference with the taillights - nothing readily visible, but just enough that the trunk would not latch without some extra downward force being applied. See the "no" photo below (which I took before trimming the tails off the zip ties).

The other photos show my second round of zip ties. This time I oriented the heads of the ties downwards so they would not create interference with where the taillights slide into the brackets - after this change, the trunk lid latches normally again by just letting it fall down.

Note that although my car is a '21, it has the taillights, taillight brackets, and rear bumper cover for a '16-18. So potentially this is a unique issue. It still seemed worth mentioning in case it helps someone else applying the zip-tie fix from ending up with the same "trunk won't latch under its own momentum" issue...

I’m pretty sure you have to yank the entire bumper on the 2019+ cars, as opposed to just being able to remove the taillights on the 2016-2018 cars. So, the tie wrap solution is a no go for me…

It's "normal" I live with it, only does it on the right side, hot temps and direct sun. I don't pay attention to it anymore.

I'm in Vegas too. Brought mine to Finley Chevrolet. Gave me a rental for two days. They'll bring it to a body shop and fix it for free. They're aware of the issue and didn't fight me at all about it. My driver's side was the worst. Looks just about perfect now
