Building the Camaro model authentically
 

I was an avid model builder when I was a kid and now at 42 I find myself getting back into it. I built the 2014 Corvette for my Mom as she has a 2016. Even got the correct paint from the dealer and carefully cut the roof since it was molded solid.

So just wondering if anyone has built this kit:

I have this one. Still in the box. haven't built it yet. quality seems decent though. I wanted the 1LE one cause of the wheels. :)

Wish they made a model kit for my 2017 ZL1!

I started on one. Painted it, but the maroon color bled through the white after clear and it ended up pink. Subsequently tossed it and haven't started on the other one.

Lightly sand the body then spray a coat or two of primer on it. Any color over any color will come out great with some primer first.

Well it arrived today and I cannot be more excited to start the project!!! I even ordered a can of the factory correct GM color code for shadow gray metallic!

In 2017, wasn't it the Nightfall Grey Metallic?

Yes but I own a 2019 2SS in shadow gray metallic.

This 2017 kit from AMT is the most closely related to mine even though it’s a 50th anniversary. They also have a 2016, but i think the front ends from the model manufacturer are a bit different, even though there’s no difference in the real cars. I will build it as my own car. Meaning my color, won’t be applying the stripes and decals, and painting the calipers red (I’ll be painting the real ones red). Also I’ll be using some filling putty on the roof to smooth out the inverted Mohawk and masking a rectangle and painting gloss black where my moonroof is.

Got it haha. I too wanted to build one but I was never able to find an RS model! I'm too perfectionist to get an SS and call it like mine!

Don't forget on July 4TH blow it up with firecrackers. used to do that when i was a kid build model cars during the year and on July 4TH blow them all up with firecrackers.

I’m building one as well! Mine is a different kit, but still made by AMT. It’s the 2017 SS 1LE. My car is not a 1LE, but it looks basically the same. Should have it done by the end of the week. Here’s the engine.
