2015 Tahoe running with the big dogs?

So, I let my wife drive my Camaro while her Forester was in the shop. When it was time to pick up her forester she asked me if we could give her the power of my Camaro in a vehicle that had more cargo space like her forester. I told her the Tahoe had a 5.3L v8 and that I could pretty much do everything I did to my Camaro to it. We quickly traded her 2015 turbo forester in on a 2015 Tahoe. I started her build with a k&n black hawk cai, headers and a Borla exhaust. She liked it a lot...but asked for more. I then put on the l86 ported intake manifold with throttle body (GPI) and a throttle controller...she really liked it but asked for more again lol so I gave the guys at GPI another call and ordered her a cam package.

I started the cam installation this morning and what a similar yet totally different setup this thing is. I am pretty sure with the low lift cam and full tune (transmission too) she will be happy for a while. We will see lol.

Is enough really ever enough once you get the bug? Lol

Should have started with a Denali, 6.2 to standard!

^^

Indeed, had a Denali as a rental(upgraded to it for free) in Boston. Was impressed. My friends kept reminding me dont drive it like my Camaro.. my response was it has the 6.2 similar to my Camaro. :)
Much fun!

Fantastic. My wife is right on the edge of letting me supercharge my truck, have any advice?

do it before she changes her mind.

I did want to get a Denali but she has a stigma against GMC...there is no explaining this. It is what it is lol

I am surprised that I cant seem to find anyone else that has done this on the 2015 though.

Probably because it's a different engine than previous years. I would guess not many people are tearing into them yet as opposed to older vehicles.

Well, I have the cam stuffed into place and the heads back on...Now i have to drop the oil pan... to pull the oil pump... to set the timing lol

It looks like i have to drop the front differential to do it.

Gonna be fun :P

Pretty sure you have to drop the steering gear too.

Yeah and the front subframe brace :P

It will all be worth it when its ripping down the street like a bat out of...going to the grocery store for some milk :)

A cam in the new trucks is a bunch more work than the old ones, but you'll be happy with it for sure.

Should have got a Trackhawk

Tarendor 07-13-2019 04:43 PM

Ok, so I got it done and she has been driving it now for the past 2 weeks and loves it. It was kind of a pain to do but it was well worth it. As a side note, it almost shifts like my Camaro after Ryan tuned it. My wife loves smashing the gas and the truck barking the tires when it shifts.
