Camaro ZL/1 a touring car?
Recently took a 2100 mi. round trip with the car to Florida, traveling thru the Smokie Mts. If you have never traveled this road, it is complete with plenty of curves and inclines. Each leg was done in 14 hrs, with just some pit stops.
The Z with the Recaro seats is very comfortable, especially with the cooling in FL. summer heat. The power of the Z is where it shines. The ability to maneuver in traffic is done with just the slightest amount of pedal. I hate when people take up residence in the passing lane. With the corner and handling of magnetic ride and good tires, passing is effortless, whether on the inside or outside curves. The car performed flawlessly, even in almost 99 degree temps. Never showed being hot, while I stayed cool inside. This car is more than capable of getting over 25 mpg, depending on your cruising speed. I fell more in love with car on this trip and almost hating it coming to an end. I tend to think it is more of a GT car, than a touring car but, this car does it all. I suppose I am preaching to the choir. |
I hope you hit the Dragon as well as the Cherohala highway !

I use my ZL1 vert as a gt. Top down, air on, seats on, sunscreen and hat too ( lol ). It is high 80's/low 90's in Ontario with relentless sun.
I'm in your choir too. Power, handling and comfort. Pure joy to drive. |
I have taken mine on several 1,500 - 2,000 mile road trips. They are truly wonderful vehicles.

The gas mileage is tremendous, if you keep your foot out of it. I average ~ 27.3 miles per gallon ~70-75 mph, with top down. This is better than my 5.0 and 4.0 engine on other vehicles....

27 is hard to believe, even in touring mode - thank the AFM

Yeah, the Z is our go to road trip car. The wife won't go in anything else. Only aggravating thing is everytime you come upon some crapbox minivan/mompopmobile, they have to show you what they got. Can't just drive normal and let you go past.

ZL1 is very comfortable touring car, or maybe it is so much fun that it feels that way. 90mph in this machine sure does feel like 50 though. Only problem for me is driving in sport mode for too long makes the touring steering feel very light and loose. |

AFM is suspected of being one of the main issues contributing to the “shudder” issue with the A8 in the Z06. Thank heavens they didn’t add it to the ZL1.
Love road trips. Already told the wife the next time we head out on one the Z is going with us. |

I have the same exact truck I had in 2010, verse a 2012 now. The 2010 got a confirmed 2 mpg better than the 2012, Weird... https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=496497 |
My mpg on this trip was the last thing on my mind. In fact, I could not wait to get back on the road, the drive was that intoxicating. Already looking forward to my next trip, to the "Tail of the Dragon". Have done it on the bike but, not the Z.
Happy Touring |
