my 2021 camaro ss I bought it nov 13th the 14th turned it in for paint correction and ceramic coating 2 weeks later I get the car back and it looks great. Took it to a local car show and all the kids loved it (dad look at that black car) So now dec 7th my wife drives the car to work for the first time. At 4 am she calls me and says the motor fell apart. Now I have to get up and meet up with her. sure enough the motor sounds like all the insides fell apart. The tow truck driver had to try to start the motor to get it our of park. So I was able to hear it. It was towed to the nearest dealer, now waiting to hear from them. In the mean time a little research tells me that the 6.2 motor is having a problem with lifter springs. If thats the case I'm not sure I want just the springs replaced. What about small pieces of metal that may have gotten into the system? It has 321miles on it.

The dealer will tear the motor down and assess whether it can be repaired or not. If it is bad enough, they will replace it with new engine. Sucks to hear man, hopefully they provide you with a good loaner while you wait out the solution.

Wow, that blows man.

Probably a bad valve spring that collapsed. Had a bad one in my 2010 2SS LS3 that was covered under warranty.

Yeah there was a couple months of bad valve springs a while back for the 2021's. Likely what happened.

OP i would demand a brand new engine. Even if it is fixable it isn't ever the same after you open it up, at least in my eyes. Luckily my engine blew so bad they had no choice but to put a complete brand new engine it. Mine blew @ 18,500 from rod bearing six imploding.

OP sorry to hear but yes, the 2021s have been suffering from a run of bad valve springs. It's affected the new Corvette as well.

Even if your engine did not suffer catastrophic failure (as in, it didn't chew the rods or pistons), and GM says they want to repair your engine, make sure you get a brand new engine from the bottom end up. There's now metal particles in the oil which will circulate through your engine if it's rebuilt and ran again.

Unless of course, they do a complete tear down and clean every part individually including the block, which of course they're not going to do lol

What month was the car built. That info is on the door jamb decal

All i need to read as mine was built during the same time period. 500 miles now and so far ok.

just be sure to drive it hard all the time. that way if it does blow up it'll cause catastrophic damage and leave them no choice but to replace the engine.

that was my take on this. 23k miles later its fine. fbo/ethanol car at this point. granted the 18s didn't have any engine issues i know of.

What week was your car built in November? mine was built 11/02. I would hope the engines with the bad valve spring batch were assembled in early October, either used in earlier vehicles and or fixed before they went out on the assembly line.

One C7 was enough.
