Pock marks - looking for recommendations
 

I am looking for suggestions on how to fix this.

The linked photo of my hood shows tiny pock marks both by the graphics and on the bottom part of the photo. In-person, the marks in both locations look essentially the same.

I think this happened as a result of my re-painting a tool box (red, of course) and failing to notice the overspray. The car wasn`t even in the garage when I did this! In fact, I wouldn`t have noticed it if I hadn`t started claying and noticed the red coming off.

I`ve tried 3M Rubbing Compound (not the more aggressive perfect it variety, just the regular Rubbing Compound) with a Lake Country orange pad. That created some minor marring that was easily correctable with a green pad and Pinnacle Swirl Remover. But it did not remove the etching/pock marks. Altogether, I did several passes with that combo with the same results.

Should I try M105? Or is that too aggressive?

Did you try claying? Normally clay will remove paint overspray.

Yes. That's the only reason I knew it was overspray: red paint was coming off on the clay.

There are no surface defects, as I clayed again, polished with 3M, finished with Pinnacle Swirl Remover and Klasse AIO.

I'm going to give M105 a try and I'll post results.

I have used m105 twice on my ZL1. Used a polishing pad, kept speed down, light pressure and constant motion.

I assume your results were good?

Yeah I'm a rookie at polishing. M105 and follow up with M205 and I had awesome results. I actually wanted to remove my ceramic coating that had water spotted.

I had heard the m105 can be too aggressive so like I said I used it with a polishing pad.

M105 isn't too aggressive. Can use it with a light or medium pad. But maybe give a paint prep like gyeon paint prep a try, it's used to remove any polishing before applying sealants or whatnot but it does a really good job removing stuff.
