How Much Tint in NY?
I know the legal limit in NY is 70%, but what has been your experience (other states included), as far as how dark you can go without getting tickets all of the time. I was thinking 40%, but I would like to go darker.

I've had 35s on my Beemer for almost 8 years and never got a tint ticket. I think I'm gonna go with 20s this time around and maybe 50 on the windshield.

Funny thing was my local chevy dealership put the tint on for me. They fixed it to 35% and the ticket was dropped. I still had to pay the court fees of $99. After that incident I will only do the legal limit for the state. |
I had 5% on all my windows, and 50% on my windshield, for my 2014.... was it legal here in Cali? Hell no! was it safe? Hell no! at least not at night. but did it look badass in the day time? Hell YEAH!!!! Black on black on black!
it was fun till my wife got caught... she forgot to roll her windows down when she was passing a motorcycle cop  everyone knows that the bike cops around here are only good for petty tickets |

This is anecdotal, so it's worth what you paid for it:
I was googling this, and came across discussions on a cop forum. They lurv dark tint because it gives them "PC" (Probable Cause) to stop and do a plain view fishing trip for anything else in the car. |
Why would anyone do the windshield ?? :iono: that'd be dangerous at night ... the tint places (well legit ones) won't do windshields here.
|
I had 30% on my Subaru WRX and never got a ticket. I know a lot of cops and the majority won't pull you over just for tint. If you're speeding or something and they knock the ticket down for you, then they MAY give you a tint ticket instead of speeding.

Out of state tags solves this for me. 20%, but i wouldnt do the windshield. Thats just asking for a ticket.

day use is no worse than wearing sunglasses. |
50% is the limit in Ohio, I had been driving with 20% on my last two Camaro's for about 20 years and never got a ticket or pulled over for them. Went 35% this time tho, I think I'm getting old lol

To answer the OP's original question: http://tintlaws.com/new-york-window-tint-law.php
Following the letter of the law, you really can't do much in the way of aftermarket tint in your state. I would suggest the Llumar AIR 80 if you want to reject a little light, UV, and heat, while still staying legal. |
