GM Maps Coming Soon
So it looks like GM is rolling out a cloud based navigation service to onStar/Connected vehicles that did not come with the SD Card...I'm kind of mad because I just ordered an SD card in Saturday and this story dropped today.

Here is the link I have the IOS head unit. Some places I read said it's just an SD card and some said it's a module that goes behind the glove box. |
older units that didn't have nav were never equipped with the gps sensor connected to the hmi module (or the connector installed on the board). much less the firmware.
maybe the newer ones just have a software update via sd card to enable the functionality... not sure. just don't be surprised if it does nothing since navigation is a 450 dollar option for 2020, so it is very unlikely to be something you can get from the dealer for 250 |

GM Maps+ will be an app that uses the on-star data connection already in the car (2018+) assuming you pay for the data connection... I guess they needed something to justify the cost of paying for data in your car :noidea:

I'll report back when I get mine and see how it works, as this is my only option for the 2018. Heck, I may need a new phone, too. |
