2015 ATS Coupe is 3418 lbs

Predictor for the '16 Gen6? Lots of equipment on that car too.

I would say that it is a pretty good indicator of what range to expect.

As the first Alpha-platform coupe, this ATS is obviously of interest to us Camaro fans.

I'm certainly not blown away by this car, but it looks okay. Seems a little conservative, as it looks pretty much how many renderers imagined it would look.

I hope they'll be a little more aggressive with the Camaro.

A 6th Gen Camaro with an 450-460 HP LT1 engine that is 400-500 pounds less than the current model ?! WIN WIN WIN

AZCamaroFan 01-14-2014 02:24 PM

that is the 4 cyl model, but even so a V6 and V8 Camaro should be at a good weight.

The LTG is supposed to weigh in at 360 lbs and the LFX weighs in at 365 lbs, so the V6 should come in at a very similar weight unless they add AWD to that model.

The current 1LE is 3860 lbs; the V-6 3719 lbs. We might be looking at a 200 lb increase for the V-8 + stouter components over the 4-cyl.

Let's hope GM can keep the 400 lb spread for the '16 through design and less electronics, sound deadening, etc. That's the good part about it being a Chevy.

Ford just dropped 800lbs of the new 2015 F150 !! Aluminum body, Chevy has some catching up to do.

We can't expect the V8 equipped 6th gen to come in at that weight. Expect something at least 3,550 to 3,600 lbs. I'm fairly certain that 3,418 is with the turbo 4 cylinder.

I hope you are right! That would be great. Although on the ATS sedan, all the specs I've read put the V6 version at another 50 - 70 or so lbs more than the turbo version, and I don't see why it would make any difference in the sedan versus the coupe. It could be that the V6 version just had more options like magnetic ride or something.

I've read up to 700 on the biggest models. The smaller models are less. If that's all true its still pretty damn impressive, but the Chevy was already three or four hundred lbs lighter than the Ford was.

Anyways...back to 6th gen Camaro. All this weight estimation is assuming the use the same chassis, and instead not a slightly larger version (like the CTS rides on). But if the ATS and 6th gen are going to be built in the same house as was reported on before, then I'd guess they'd be building on the same chassis....maybe, maybe not.

Can't wait until we start seeing mules running around.

But they're making the new CTS at Lansing Grand River as well, right?

With that said, I certainly hope that the new Camaro is more ATS-sized than CTS-sized. If it's as big as a CTS, kiss goodbye any significant weight loss.

Gm is already working on ways to lighten up the vehicles without loosing strenghth and trying to keep cost under controll...

Even IF the next gen Camaro utilizes the CTS wheelbase and shorter overhangs to maintain current size, some weight loss will occur, but you're right it wouldn't be significant. Also, even at that size the Alpha chassis'd Camaro will still run circles around the Zeta2 car that's available now.

I hope the next gen Camaro comes in that color of Blue also. Love that Blue.

Add 200 lbs to this number (for SS gear) and your only 200 lbs shy of a current SS
Seems kind of negligible
