2022 Nissan 400Z

At a quick glance it looks almost exactly like the prototype Nissan showed last year, which I liked but after a deeper look was disappointed with it.
My thoughts: I like the looks and potential for a 400 hp twin turbo V6 in this car. However, it's disappointing because it has all the same hard points as the current 370Z - inside and out. It's essentially just a reskin/restyle inside and out, and a powertrain upgrade. |
At 400 HP and if it is under 3600 pounds with full options and competitive features to the SS, then I think it will be a good purchase in the $40K range.

As others stated it looks like a 370Z with new fascia’s. Also think they should have kept with the numbering from 350, 370, to the next being 390 IF the next Z is going to basically be a 370Z with new fascias and body lines. Only a complete redesign should end up being the 400Z.

I believe 350z and 370z were reference to the engine size, 3.5 and 3.7. 300zx was a 3.0tt too

The 90s 300zx twin turbo was good enough of a car (Direct Corvette competitor) to where I think Nissan should continue naming the new car based on the engine size and call the new one 300ZX twin turbo. I don't like the idea of breaking tradition and naming it based on the hp. Marketers think the higher number the better and that if the number in the name is smaller than the last gen, then people will think it's a weaker car. But most people buying these cars would understand 300ZX twin turbo.

The bigger concern I have seen about the car is that some people think it may just be a reskinned Q60S, which isn't exactly the most sporty chassis.

To this day, I have yet to find/drive a car that I love as much as the Z.. in terms of handling and being connected as one. I will not discount my SS, because it does come close. Like anything else, the Camaro is better in ways and worse in others. However, I obviously cannot speak on the 400z (which you are referring to). I would be surprised if the 400z doesn't follow suit, in regards to the "sportiness". I've been waiting for the new Z to be released and it will likely be on my radar when it does. The heritage argument I'm not sure that I can stand behind. The Z is one of those cars that may have a small following/market, but it typically consists of very loyal and passionate fans. |
