Anyone else get a notice about a defective left half shaft?

I got a letter in the mail earlier this week from GM saying that the left (not the right!) half shaft in my 2021 Camaro may have been incorrectly heat treated when it was manufactured, and that if this is the case, I'm supposed to have the dealership replace it. I assume the dealer techs must have a way of inspecting the part in question, but the letter doesn't say how they'd know if my axle is affected.

I did what the letter said, and made an appointment for next week to have the dealership near my office look at it, but the girl on the phone hadn't heard about it, and couldn't tell me what to expect that day.

Anyone else seen this, or already had it dealt with? Did they actually replace your axle?

Have not received any notification as of yet for my 2020 LT1, thanks for letting us know.

I posted it in the correct subforum

I got a 2016 and nothing. No way i'd let the dealers work on my out of warranty SS. I'd take it to Stingray in Plant City if I had to.

My guess is they found a defect have traced it back to a specific manufacturing lot of half shafts and are only recalling those within the group. Lot tracing is crazy detailed in documentation.

Get it checked and possibly replaced since your Camaro still has warranty.

They're assymetric so there is a L and a R shaft, probably marked with a lot number or other tell tale sign for visual inspection. Its curious that "may" is used...if we knew what to look for it'd be easy :)

Oh lord not again. My 2004 Corvette had both half shafts replaced and half shaft seals twice.

It seems like this is probably related to a specific batch of parts from the supplier that affected a small number of 2021 models that were built during a specific time period. The door jamb sticker on my car says it was built in November of 2020, so if your car is from well prior to that, I suspect you're probably not affected.

I got the notice a few days ago. I’m taking it in next week for an oil change so I’ll see what they say.

My 21’ LT1 fortunately doesnt come on the online recall/TSB, and haven’t been mailed any notice.

For reference, car build was 1/21.

And... the parts are in, but I won't be able to get the car in until next week.

I can't imagine I need to update this thread again as this is pretty simple issue and solution.

My car is at the dealer for this now. They initially said a few hours.....now it is a few days as they say they have to drop the rear subframe!
