NAV map updates

Anyone try this NAV map update from AliExpress? It is the current one available from GM.

$25 from AliExpress vs $149 from GM.

Also curious about this and if anyone has tried it, as another vehicle I have (2015 Sierra) no longer has map updates available from GM.

I do know that the GM one is coded for your VIN only, so not sure how these other 3rd party ones would work/integrate into the car.

It’s only coded to your VIN after you install it in your vehicle.

Interesting. Might be worth a try.

Hate to be the one to say it, but if it's from China you'll never know what trash they could encode in it to "F' up your car. Or at least make an annoyance issue you'd spend thousands chasing.

I bought the update from GM which came on a USB stick in 2022. I wouldn't mess with something from that site you mentioned cause if it bricks your unit, now it's a trip to the dealership. Some things I'll skimp on, not that one.

I'm with Val Walkinshaw on this one. Aliexpress, Temu, Wish etc. aren't in the honest business of selling products.

By the way, I'm not sure about these newer, SD card based updates, but the USB stick with the 2023 update was VIN coded: the ordering page asked for my VIN, then upon receiving the stick I checked its file system out of curiosity, only to find my VIN and the use of some hashing/checksumming technique, supposedly to make it tamper proof.

I just recently bought two DJI drones as a hobby that are made in China, a cinematic drone and an FPV drone, that I think the U.S. government banned from being used by their agencies because of privacy concerns. But it might be a money grab by the U.S. drone manufacturers pushing hysteria to steer traffic their way and make some money. The commercial market they're still allowed, though.

This concerns me as well, but they make damn good drones. The U.S. made drones suck. If DJI is banned in the U.S., there goes my 3k, unless I fly it illegally against FAA rules.

But, hell, they still are attacking TikTok, so maybe I'll be good for a while unless the FAA decides to target DJI in the civilian market. Fingers crossed.

HELP. How do I update the NAV Maps? Looking for suggestions.

I received the SD Card from AliExpress with the nav map update.

I had changed out the USB ports in my center console with one that includes an SD Card slot.

I've tried using both, USB and the SD Card slot, but can not find anything in my radios menus for updating the Maps.

The file DEN1 won't open in Notepad or Word. I opened the: manifest.json shown below:

{
"GM product name":"MY23/24 high w/o ADAS",
"Program":"Info 3.6",
"GM part number":"86531529",
"Region":"NA",
"Jira":"DEN-58298",
"Build":"146.2",
"Transaction tag":"DEN1-NA38-421-2D30",
"SD card size":"32GB"
}

Here are pictures of the SD Card layout. I only took pictures of the root, and one folder deep in the other two folders.

The way these updates work on both the 2016-2018 and 2019+ is you need to insert the media while the car is off, then the map update will be automatically detected and launched as part of startup.

truckrglenn, do you still have a 2017? If yes, I don't think it will work, this unit you purchased from Xi Jinping is for the new 2019+ infotainment, and our cars no longer get official map updates anyway (see screenshot below).

My 2023 map update came on a USB stick, had my VIN in the manifest already (with some checksum protection), the file structure was different and the infotainment version was 2.5 or something similar, not the 3.6 I see in your post.

Also, even if this is a legit update, while GM could've made them backward compatible, I would be very, very surprised if they actually gave a **** about us owners and made it so.
