2016 Chevrolet Cruze EPA Rated at Best in Class 42 MPG Highway

2016 Chevrolet Cruze Offers 42 MPG on the Highway
EPA-estimated 42 mpg highway from new 1.4L turbo matches segment’s best

DETROIT – Offering EPA-estimated highway mileage of 42 mpg, the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze is unsurpassed in its segment for fuel highway economy.

“Offering a maximum highway range of up to 570* miles per tank– you can spend less time at the pump,” said Steve Majoros, director of marketing, Chevrolet Cars. “The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has more horsepower and torque, and is lighter than the previous generation making it more fun to drive.”

The Cruze’s EPA-estimated 42-mpg highway rating for L, LS and LT models rivals its competition. It tops competitors such as Focus with a four-cylinder (40 mpg hwy), Nissan Sentra FE (40 mpg hwy), Mazda3 (41 mpg hwy), Hyundai Elantra (37 mpg hwy) and Volkswagen Jetta (40 mpg hwy – non-hybrid).

The top-line Cruze Premier offers an EPA-estimated 40 mpg highway.

The Cruze’s efficiency is rooted in a new, direct-injected 1.4L Ecotec turbo and a leaner architecture, which contributes to a nearly 250-pound (113 kg) weight reduction on L, LS and LT trims over previous models. Stop/start technology bolsters efficiency in stop-and-go traffic, helping the Cruze offer an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in city driving – a 7-percent increase over previous models.

The most connected car in its class based on built-in 4G LTE WiFi and connectivity features, including offering new technologies such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility**, a more comfortable ride and an athletic, aerodynamically optimized design, the 2016 Cruze elevates the compact car segment.

It also offers 10 standard air bags, as well as an expanded range of available adaptive crash-avoidance technologies, including Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Alert.

The Cruze range expands in the fall with an all-new hatchback model and the Cruze diesel returns in early 2017.

FAST FACTS

  • Cruze is Chevrolet’s best-selling car around the world, with more than 4 million sold since it went on sale in 2008.
  • Cruze is the most connected car in its class.

It seems a lot of people are really looking forward to the hatchback...it seems a bit like GM is being a bit slow to get that one moving...

I was just telling the wife the same thing this morning. I just bought my Limited for a song a month ago. I was telling her in a couple of years after the Hatch is out we may have to trade in.

I noticed they're not offering the diesel right now...

Just confirmed...I'm not seeing it on either the old or new gen Cruze.

Thanks VW.

That's because the new diesel won't be available until MY2017.

Right, on the new ones.

I mean I found it odd they quietly dropped it from the old cars too.

FenwickHockey65 04-18-2016 02:19 PM

On the Cruze Limited? It's basically just GM milking the 1st gen Cruze for another year for fleet, except unlike Impala Limited, GM opened sales up to retail customers who want a cheap car. The diesel didn't sell all that well in the first place so it's not surprising it's not being offered on the final build out of the 1st gen.

Bring on the hatch! And then make a hot version!

Looks of the new cruze are growing on me, opposite for the Malibu though.

I am wanting the ability to bypass the "Stop/Start" technology. Just can't get use to it. Only then will I consider buying one. Like the looks and even test drove one. More pick up and comfort over the Cruze Limited.

I'll probably be picking up an RS in August. I love my '13 RS I have now! It's a good little work car with great MPG's too.
